I was five when my youngest brother was born and my response was basically, "Mother, Father, thank you for your contribution, this is my child now." Even as a kid, I would always find my way to the babies. As a preteen it was the highlight of my week if I got to volunteer for a neighborhood mom with her little ones. I've nannied for probably 7 different kids from infancy to mid-childhood, and have babysat for countless others. I used to work for a babysitting service in San Francisco and Chicago that would match sitters with families on a more last minute basis, so I would fill-in for many families sometimes one time, sometimes recurring, so I am quite familiar with watching new kids and dealing with kids who may be shy with new people. I also used to work childcare for the players of the Chicago Cubs whenever they had home games at Wrigley. Again, I became familiar with navigating separation anxiety with kids who unsure about being away from mom and dad! I was watching up to 5 kids at a time, ranging from 6 months to 13 years old.
